How to get past art block

Salutations! There's a lot of writing lately since I've got art block myself, and just when I got past it my brain was like "Hey make a blog post !!" so I did, I guess. But, here are a few tips on getting past art block! 1. Music I used to see this when I looked up inspo, and I thought it would never work until I tried it. I recommend listening to Metallica! I really like heavy metal/metal in general and this worked for me. I have no idea how to describe how it works, it kinda just does. Like, I dunno, it just helps you get in the zone. 2. Go outside I know this sounds really, really boring, but this works, too. Besides, it's also a chance to get fresh air! You might also find drawing off nature helpful. It might even be fun! 3. Look at other art Try looking at other art. Don't compare it to your art, just use it as inspo. I do this whenever I have art block.

Drawing Tips

1 - Shading/lighting I often see many beginner artists use jet-black for shading or putting the shade where the light hits the object, let alone putting shade at all. And then, I end up seeing a lot of people using white for their lighting, which really scares me. (Next time I see someone do that, I will dropkick them into the sun.)     So please, FOR THE LOVE OF FLAPJACK, PLEASE don't use black or white for shading or light! Use dark blue or purple, or even red for shading. And I find light yellow or a lighter color of the light source's color to work decently. 2 - References Many people might think using references is stealing, but stealing someone's art and taking a quick look at something aren't the same. In fact, many professional artists use them, and likely still do today. I often use references when I'm drawing something new. 3 - Practice I know this is the last thing anyone would want to hear, but it really helps. And I don't mean making full, colored

I might finish this later, but I'm trying to muster an idea of what tribe it'll be, or what colors.

You can use this as a profile picture or something, just credit / link back to this post. Btw the collector is a character owned by Dana Terrace and Disney

I FIGURED OUT SHADING + LIGHTING :D

Image
I figured out how to do lighting + shading so I made a few drawings. The characters belong to Dana Terrace / Disney; Eda and The Collector are from The Owl House. Also, welcome to my blog! I'll usually post art here but you might find writing and stuff.
